一、兩大標點符號英文重點 A Couple of Important Notes
標點符號英文用法與中文用法的差異之處，雖然一般來說是無傷大雅的，但在正式的文章裡可是非常重要的，位置若是放錯了整句話的意思都會不一樣喔！
1. 中文用全形，英文用”半形”！
Fullwidth for Chinese and halfwidth for English!
在英文標點符號中的第一個重點就是，標點符號記得使用”半形”符號！The first thing to remember about English punctuation is to use the halfwidth form when typing!
Wrong 錯誤用法：Hey！Nice to meet you，Mark。
Correct 正確用法：Hey! Nice to meet you, Mark.
2. 符號前無須空格，符號”後”切記空格！
Spaces come AFTER the punctuation mark, NOT before!
另一個很重要的重點是，在標點符號前面不用多加空格，反而在符號的後面需要加上空格，才是正確的用法喔！
Another important thing to remember is that a space is not needed before the mark, but is mandatory AFTER the mark.Wrong 錯誤用法： Before I go to work , I usually eat my breakfast .
Correct 正確用法： Before I go to work, I usually eat my breakfast.
三、符號使用方法 Use of Punctuation Marks
接著，下面會逐一探討第一部分提到的八個標點符號的正確使用方法和需要注意的地方！
1. 逗號 「 , 」Comma
- 用於分隔一系列的簡單內容 Used to separate a series of elements.
舉例：
I usually eat bread, salad, and a banana for breakfast.
- 連接兩個子句 To connect two ideas.
舉例：
Since it was Saturday, I slept in a little longer.
2. 句號「 . 」Period / Full stop
- 用於結構完整的句子結束後 To end a sentence or statement.
舉例：
I appreciate your help.
3. 問號「?」Question mark
- 與中文用法相似，用於疑問語句後 Used at the end of a question.
舉例：
How was your day?
4. 驚嘆號「!」Exclamation mark
- 與中文用法相似，用驚訝與感嘆的語句子後 To express extreme emotion.
舉例：
We’re all looking forward to this trip!
5. 冒號「:」Colon
- 用於對後面內容的介紹或解釋
To introduce, explain, or expand on the first part of the sentence.
舉例：
He has two bad habits: smoking and gambling.
6. 分號「;」Semicolon
- 用於分隔地位相等的獨立子句， 有時比使用句號更能表現子句間緊密的連結
Usually used to join two closely related ideas, more emphasized than using a comma.
舉例：
Mandy works very hard; she doesn’t want to fail the exam.
- 也經常置於連接副詞，像是thus、 however、therefore後
Also used before conjunctive adverbs (thus, however, therefore, etc.).
舉例：
I have had two servings of coffee already; however, I still feel lethargic.
7. 雙引號「”」/ 單引號「’」 Double / Single Quotation Marks
- 用於引述句 When quoting what someone said.
舉例：
Amy asked, “When’s dinner?”
And then, he said, “She yelled at me and exclaimed, ‘This is ridiculous!’”
- 用於要強調的單詞或片語 To emphasize or stress something.
舉例：
He thought I was joking and gave me ‘the look’.
- 標註書籍、電影、文學、各式出版物等等創作品
舉例：
Do you like “Friends”?
8. 連字號「-」hyphen
- 用於字首，與後方詞語組成複合詞
To join words and express a link between them.
舉例：
ex-girlfriend, well-known, fast-moving
其實雖然標點符號使用錯誤不影響日常溝通使用，但對於正式書信和期刊文章中，卻是一大致命傷！要學習就要學習正確的用法，往後寫作無往不利！
